EU observers cite successes, persistent challenges in PH elections

The mission presented 21 recommendations to improve transparency, participation, and the electoral legal framework, emphasizing the need for reforms.

Chief Observer Marta Temido stated the EU's commitment to supporting the Philippines in achieving transparent and inclusive elections.

The EU's final report suggests revising provisions of the 1985 Omnibus Election Code to align with international standards and addressing gaps in election laws.

Key issues such as the comprehensive regulation of political parties and curbing the influence of political families remain unaddressed.

The report also recommends improvements to polling places to ensure voter secrecy and enhanced training for poll watchers on this matter.
