Chiz Escudero hopeful to retain Senate presidency

Senate President Francis "Chiz" Escudero remains hopeful of reclaiming his post in the 20th Congress, emphasizing that the decision rests with the Senate majority.

A resolution of support for Escudero was signed by senators, with only six senators not appending their signatures.

Senators Vicente Sotto III, Panfilo Lacson, Juan Miguel Zubiri, Loren Legarda, Risa Hontiveros and Imee Marcos have yet to express their support.

Escudero confirmed that the decision on the Senate presidency will be made through a vote by show of hands when the Senate convenes on July 28.

The first week of the 20th Congress will focus on organizational matters, including committee elections and the first reading of proposed bills, after which the legislative process will commence.

Committee chairmanships are expected to remain fluid until a new Senate president is elected.
