ERC proposes 100% discount on electricity for 50 kWh consumers

The Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC) is proposing to expand the Lifeline Subsidy Program by increasing the electricity consumption threshold to 50 kilowatt hours (kWh) or less per month for a 100% discount.

Beneficiaries of the Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program (4Ps) consuming 50 kWh or less will be automatically enrolled in the program.

To fund the expanded program, all other electricity consumers will be charged a uniform rate of P0.01 per kWh.

The collected fees will be remitted to the Power Sector Assets and Liabilities Management Corp. to form a national lifeline subsidy fund.

This initiative aligns with Republic Act No. 9136, which mandates the ERC to provide subsidized electricity to low-income consumers.
