EJ Obiena to headline pole vault challenge in Makati

Filipino pole vaulter EJ Obiena will headline the Atletang Ayala World Pole Vault Challenge in Makati on September 20-21, 2025.

He will compete against several top international athletes, including World No. 5 Ersu Sasma, World No. 6 Menno Vloon, and World No. 12 Thibaut Collet.

Obiena's recent results include a gold medal at the Asian Athletics Championships and a silver in Meeting Madrid 2025, but also some lower placings.

Prior to the Makati event, Obiena will participate in the World Athletics Continental Tour in Beijing on September 7 and the World Athletics Championships in Tokyo from September 13-15.

At the World Championships, he will face elite competition, including world record holder Mondo Duplantis, and will aim to improve on his previous bronze and silver medals.

Many of the international competitors in Tokyo will also travel to the Philippines for the Makati challenge.
