EJ Obiena finishes joint fourth in Paris meet ahead of Olympics

Filipino pole vaulter EJ Obiena secured a joint fourth-place finish in the Meeting de Paris in France on Sunday, July 7, his final tournament before the 2024 Paris Olympics.

He cleared 5.75m, tying with Greece's Emmanouil Karalis, but missed the podium after consecutive fouls at 5.85m and an unsuccessful attempt at 5.95m.

The event was won by Sweden's Armand Duplantis, who cleared 6.00m for his 10th consecutive gold medal this year.

Sam Kendricks of the USA took silver with 5.95m, and Thibaut Collet of France won bronze with 5.85m.

Despite falling short of a podium finish, Obiena's performance at the Diamond League event still showcased his readiness for the Olympics, following his season-best mark of 5.97m achieved in Poland in June.
