Education Sec. Angara denies involvement in kickback schemes

Education Secretary Juan Edgardo "Sonny" Angara has denied any involvement in alleged kickback schemes surrounding multibillion-peso government infrastructure projects.

This denial follows claims made by former DPWH Undersecretary Roberto M. Bernardo during a Senate blue ribbon committee hearing.

Bernardo alleged that Education Undersecretary Trygve L. Olaivar received commissions for infrastructure projects associated with Angara's term as chairman of the Senate Finance Committee.

Bernardo claimed his transactions with Olaivar regarding these projects occurred between 2019 and 2024.

Bernardo also named incumbent Senator Jinggoy Estrada and former Senator Grace Poe as lawmakers allegedly involved in the kickback scheme.

Angara, in a statement, rejected any insinuation of his involvement in anomalous projects, stating, "In my 21 years in government, we have never been involved in corruption."
