Duterte vouches for officials amid DOH probe

President Duterte has expressed his full trust and confidence in the integrity of his officials, assuring that there were no anomalies in the government's response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The President is ready to personally vouch for his men if called upon by the Office of the Ombudsman, which is investigating alleged irregularities in the Department of Health's (DOH) pandemic response.

Ombudsman Samuel Martires has initiated an investigation into Health Secretary Francisco Duque III and other officials concerning the procurement of personal protective equipment and the provision of benefits for health workers.

Duterte emphasized that public service requires sacrifice and appealed for the public's patriotism and support in the government's efforts.

He also personally attested that the procurement of medical supplies during the early stages of the outbreak was not irregular, stating that the government sought affordable and abundant supplies.

The DOH has pledged its full cooperation with the Ombudsman's investigation.
