President Rodrigo Duterte will announce tonight the fate of the quarantine status in Metro Manila and other parts of the country.
Presidential spokesperson Harry Roque stated that the President will make the announcement and that an official resolution has not yet been issued, despite a leaked copy circulating online.
The leaked Inter-agency Task Force (IATF) for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases resolution suggests that Metro Manila could be placed under General Community Quarantine (GCQ) from June 1 to June 15.
Under the proposed GCQ, high-risk barangays in the National Capital Region would still be subject to zoning implementations by the National Task Force (NTF) on COVID-19.
Several other areas, including Baguio City, Pangasinan, Regions II and III, Region IV-A, Albay, Iloilo City, Region VII (excluding Cebu City and Mandaue City), Zamboanga City, and Davao City, are also proposed to be placed under GCQ.
Cebu City is reportedly to remain under Modified Enhanced Community Quarantine (MECQ), with the possibility of localized Enhanced Community Quarantine (ECQ) in critical areas.
Local government units (LGUs) have until noon of May 29 to appeal their quarantine classification to the IATF.
The leaked resolution also includes directives for the Department of Transportation (DOTr) to provide additional buses for stranded Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) and to assess holding area capacities at NAIA Terminal 2.
The DOTr is also tasked with determining test results for seafarers on cruise ships in Manila Bay and arranging their transport home.
The Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) is mandated to remind LGUs to allow COVID-19 negative OFWs to return home for quarantine.
