Duterte places 9 areas under ECQ until May 15

President Rodrigo Duterte has placed nine geographical areas under enhanced community quarantine (ECQ) until May 15 through Executive Order (EO) No. 112 to curb the spread of COVID-19.

The high-risk areas placed under ECQ include the National Capital Region, Central Luzon (except Aurora), Calabarzon, Benguet, Pangasinan, Iloilo, Cebu, Bacolod City, and Davao City.

All other areas not under ECQ will be under a general community quarantine (GCQ), provided that minimum health standards are met.

The decision to impose ECQ was based on COVID-19 trends, health system capacity, and economic, social, and security factors.

President Duterte urged local government units to cooperate with the national government's efforts against the pandemic.

The IATF has also released guidelines for the extended ECQ and GCQ, which allow for the resumption of major infrastructure projects.
