Duterte bloc senators back Chiz Escudero for Senate President

Seven senators from the Duterte bloc, also known as "Duter7," have pledged their support for Senator Francis "Chiz" Escudero to continue as Senate President in the 20th Congress.

The "Duter7" bloc includes Senators Ronald "Bato" Dela Rosa, Christopher "Bong" Go, Robin Padilla, Rodante Marcoleta, Imee Marcos, and siblings Mark and Camille Villar.

Senator Dela Rosa confirmed his personal commitment and stated that the bloc, in principle, had discussed and agreed to back Escudero's speakership.

Dela Rosa revealed he has already signed a resolution supporting Escudero's leadership, though he is unsure if his colleagues have done the same.

He cited Escudero's open and non-close-minded leadership style as a reason for his support, emphasizing that he received no promises in return.

This public declaration is the first explicit statement of the Duterte bloc's position on the Senate leadership, despite reports of Escudero already having majority support.

Dela Rosa clarified that the impeachment case involving Vice President Sara Duterte did not influence their decision.
