DSWD probes alleged political exploitation of PWD in Pasig

The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) is investigating the alleged exploitation of a mentally challenged individual for political purposes in Pasig City.

A video circulated online showing a 77-year-old woman, diagnosed with a psychological disability, claiming she would not vote for an incumbent Pasig mayor due to a lack of assistance.

The woman's niece revealed that her aunt, who has been under medication for ten years, was instructed to record the video in exchange for free rice and has been distressed since its upload.

The niece expressed disappointment that her aunt's disability was taken advantage of to create the video, fearing her condition might worsen due to political involvement.

The DSWD Secretary stated that the agency will lead the filing of charges if the exploitation and abuse of the person with a disability are proven true.

The use of persons with disabilities for political aims might violate Republic Act 7610, the Special Protection of Children Against Abuse, Exploitation and Discrimination Act.
