Dr. Willie Ong files senatorial bid amid cancer treatment

Health advocate and cardiologist Dr. Willie Ong has formalized his senatorial bid for the 2025 midterm elections by having his certificate of candidacy filed by his wife, Dr. Liza Ong, with the Commission on Elections.

Ong is currently undergoing cancer treatment in Singapore for "sarcoma cancer" in his stomach.

His legal counsel, Gilbert Lauengco, stated that Ong plans to return to the country by November for a limited physical campaign from December to January, and will be physically present in key areas by February.

Ong will primarily harness social media platforms like Facebook and YouTube for his campaign, consistent with his previous national bids.

Despite his health condition, Ong is confident in his ability to perform the duties of a senator if elected, acknowledging potential challenges but affirming his resolve.

This marks Ong's third attempt at a national position, following unsuccessful runs for senator in 2019 and vice president in 2022.
