DPWH reassesses P255.5 billion flood control budget for 2026

Malacañang announced that the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) is reassessing the reallocation of P255.5 billion from its 2026 flood control budget to support other government programs, while ensuring that crucial flood mitigation efforts are not compromised.

Palace Press Officer Atty. Claire Castro stated that the DPWH is identifying projects where funds can be adjusted to create fiscal space for more appropriate programs.

President wants these funds to be used for programs that will benefit more Filipinos.

Castro assured that key flood control projects will not be shelved, especially given the country's vulnerability to unpredictable weather and stronger typhoons.

She clarified that ongoing projects already funded and paid for, even if not completed, remain under contractual obligation and are the responsibility of the contractors to finish.
