DPWH to finish drainage expansion in flood-prone Araneta Avenue by February 2026
Public Works and Highways Secretary Vince Dizon announced that the DPWH is expediting three flood control projects along Araneta Avenue in Quezon City to address severe flooding.
The DPWH has begun expanding the drainage system in the area, replacing a 36-inch drainage with two 1.5-meter long drainages, with completion expected by February 2026.
Simultaneously, the DPWH, San Miguel Corporation, and MMDA are dredging the San Juan River until June or July of next year.
A pumping station is also being constructed to hasten the flow of water into the San Juan River.
Dizon emphasized that these projects are part of 'Oplan Kontra Baha' and are being done simultaneously to significantly reduce flooding in the area by the next rainy season.
