The Department of Transportation (DOTr) will double the capacity of the creek beside the Solis and Blumentritt Stations of the North-South Commuter Railway (NSCR) to mitigate flooding during its construction.
DOTr Secretary Vince Dizon stated that government projects should not cause flooding, citing an order from President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.
Dizon and Manila City Mayor Isko Moreno inspected clearing operations at Old Antipolo Road as part of efforts to accelerate the construction of the Solis and Blumentritt NSCR stations.
The initiative aims to improve the flow of flood water from the Blumentritt, Santa Cruz, and Tondo areas.
The NSCR project, which faced a two-year delay due to right-of-way issues, is now expected to be completed by 2032.
The revised NSCR plan will no longer involve the demolition of houses and other structures.
Upon completion, the NSCR aims to reduce travel time from Manila to Clark Airport to just 45 minutes.
