DOTr scraps face shield mandate on public transport in alert levels 1-3

The Department of Transportation (DOTr) has announced that wearing face shields on all public transportation is no longer mandatory in areas under Alert Levels 1, 2, and 3.

This change follows President Rodrigo Duterte's approval of the Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases (IATF-EID) recommendation.

Face shields will remain mandatory only in areas designated under Alert Level 5.

Local government units and private establishments retain the discretion to impose their own face shield policies.

The use of face shields will be voluntary in areas under Alert Levels 3, 2, and 1.

DOTr Undersecretary Artemio Tuazon Jr. stated that the department will implement these new protocols immediately.

Previously, wearing face shields along with face masks was compulsory for all passengers on any mode of public transportation since August 15, 2020.
