DoTr pushes PUV modernization program amid calls for extension

The Department of Transportation (DoTr) affirmed that its Public Utility Vehicle Modernization Program (PUVMP) is progressing as planned, aiming for a modernized and carbon-free public transportation system despite calls for extensions from transport groups.

Transportation Secretary Vince Dizon reiterated the DoTr's commitment to a low-emission, safe, efficient, and people-centric public transportation system, with a focus on scaling up electric PUV development nationwide.

A key initiative under the PUVMP involves the completion of public transport route plans, which the DoTr is accelerating by providing support to local government units.

Dizon emphasized that finalized route plans are crucial for the viability of modern and electric vehicle units and expressed determination to complete these plans across all regions within the year.
