DOTr probes fake MARINA signature on vessel permit

The Department of Transportation (DOTr) is investigating the potential forgery of a MARINA regional official's signature on the MT Princess Empress' amended permit to sail.

MARINA-NCR regional director Marc Pascua stated that the Certificate of Public Convenience (CPC) presented by the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) was not authentic, and his name and title were misspelled on the document.

Pascua clarified that MARINA-NCR has no records of issuing an amended CPC for the vessel and he personally did not sign any such document.

The PCG had allowed the MT Princess Empress to sail on February 27 after its CPC was submitted to them.

MARINA spokesperson Sharon Aledo confirmed that the shipping company RDC Reield Marine Services possesses a valid company CPC, but the MT Princess Empress was not yet listed on it.

The PCG suggested that MARINA should ask the shipowner to explain if the document was indeed falsified.

The PCG received criticism from senators for allowing the MT Princess Empress to sail despite not having a valid permit to operate.
