DOTr intensifies Beep card hoarding crackdown

The Department of Transportation (DOTr) is intensifying its crackdown on Beep card hoarding and has given online platforms until August 31 to remove all unauthorized sellers.

Transportation Secretary Vince Dizon announced that purchasing more than two Beep cards at once will now be considered a suspicious act indicative of hoarding.

A suspect, Cateleen Ann Dumondong Manalo, was apprehended by the PNP-ACG in Pasig City for allegedly selling Beep cards on Facebook Marketplace for up to P300 each.

Charges have been filed against Manalo for violating the Access Devices Regulation Act, in relation to the Cybercrime Prevention Act.

Dizon warned that more arrests are expected and that online platforms such as Lazada, Shopee, TikTok, Facebook, and Carousell will receive letters requesting the removal of merchants illegally selling Beep cards.

He warned that if unauthorized Beep card sales persist beyond August 31, the government will be constrained to file legal actions against non-compliant companies.
