DOTr extends MRT-3 maintenance contract with Sumitomo for two more years

The Department of Transportation (DOTr) has extended the contract with Sumitomo Corporation for the rehabilitation and maintenance of the MRT-3 by another two years.

The agreement was signed by DOTr Acting Secretary Giovanni Lopez and Sumitomo Corporate Officer Takeshi Noguchi.

This extension aims to cover essential system upgrades, repairs, and ongoing operational reliability for the MRT-3.

Lopez expressed confidence in continued safe, reliable, and efficient service for commuters with the support of Sumitomo, JICA, and the Japanese government.

Since Sumitomo took over in 2019, the MRT-3 has significantly improved its operational trains, increasing from a low of 7 in 2018 to a high of 22, allowing for up to 20 train sets during peak hours.
