The Department of Justice (DOJ) will re-investigate the kidnapping and serious illegal detention cases linked to the missing sabungeros that are currently being handled by the Manila Regional Trial Court Branch 185.
This new investigation stems from the recent indictment of businessman Charlie "Atong" Ang and others for multiple counts of kidnapping with homicide and serious illegal detention.
Previously, Ang was not among the accused in the Manila Arena cases.
Prosecutor General Richard Anthony Fadullon stated that Ang could still be included in these cases if sufficient evidence is found during the preliminary investigation.
The whistleblower in the Manila Arena cases, Julie Patidongan, who identified Ang as the mastermind, may have the charges against her dropped as a result of the re-investigation.
Patidongan and his brother, Ellakim, are set to serve as state witnesses in the new cases that include Ang.
