DOJ, DILG to release face mask violator guidelines this week

Guidelines on the arrest, detention, and investigation of face mask violators may be released this week, according to Justice Secretary Menardo Guevarra.

Both the Department of Justice (DOJ) and the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) have completed drafting these guidelines.

President Duterte previously ordered the immediate arrest, detention, and investigation of individuals not properly wearing face masks in public.

This directive is part of the government's strategy to strictly enforce health protocols, control the spread of the disease, and accelerate economic reopening.

Guevarra clarified that police can already make arrests even before the guidelines are officially released, as the President's order is effective immediately.

He also reminded the public that local government units have existing ordinances with penalties for violations of health protocols.
