DOH to shift COVID-19 bulletins to weekly reports

Starting March 7, the Department of Health (DOH) will transition from daily to weekly COVID-19 case bulletins.

The new weekly bulletin will prioritize reporting on severe and critical infections, deaths, and the utilization of intensive care units (ICUs).

Health Undersecretary Maria Rosario Vergeire stated that this shift aims to encourage the public to focus on the severity of cases and healthcare capacity rather than just daily infection numbers.

She added that with over 63 million Filipinos fully vaccinated and declining COVID-19 cases, the DOH saw the need to shift its focus to a more proactive and long-term health solution.

Vergeire also mentioned that this was done to reduce frequency for meaningful data and de-emphasize daily numbers to highlight long-term recovery.

The public COVID-19 tracker will eventually be revised to reflect only weekly changes in case numbers, a permanent shift even if cases increase.
