DOH: 'Super flu' not alarming but vaccination advised

Health Secretary Teodoro Herbosa stated that the "super flu" currently spreading globally is not alarming, but emphasized the importance of vaccination and precautionary measures for the public.

Herbosa advised Filipinos traveling to temperate countries like North America and the UK to be aware of the "super flu" and consider getting the northern hemisphere vaccination.

He mentioned that the Department of Health's Epidemiology Bureau had identified 17 cases of the "super flu" in Metro Manila between July and August of the previous year, all of whom have since recovered, and there are no current cases.

While influenza is generally self-limiting, Herbosa cautioned that individuals with underlying medical conditions, such as cancer or those who are elderly, may experience more severe illness.

The Health Secretary reiterated the recommendation for Filipinos to get the flu vaccine to protect themselves against the virus.
