DOH launches non-selective immunization drive in Mindanao amid measles outbreak

The Department of Health (DOH) is initiating a non-selective immunization campaign in Mindanao to address the measles outbreak in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM).

Health Undersecretary Eric Tayag explained that children will receive vaccinations regardless of their prior vaccination status to expedite the process.

He reassured parents that there is no risk of children receiving an overdose of the measles vaccine, addressing potential vaccine hesitancy.

The BARMM Ministry of Health declared a measles outbreak after three children died of the disease in Lanao del Sur and Sulu since January.

From January 1 to March 20, 592 measles cases were logged across various BARMM provinces and cities.
