The Philippines is experiencing the beginning of a "peak" in COVID-19 infections, with an expected rise in cases over the next few weeks, according to the Department of Health (DOH).
The National Capital Region (NCR) is showing a significant increase in COVID-19 cases, accounting for 70% of the rise and doubling its weekly average.
Health Undersecretary Maria Rosario Vergeire highlighted that the NCR's average daily attack rate has climbed to 1.02.
The DOH is also observing increased COVID-19 cases in other regions including Ilocos Region, Cagayan Valley, Calabarzon, Mimaropa, Western Visayas, and Northern Mindanao.
Despite the rising case numbers, Vergeire stated that the country is not currently experiencing a COVID-19 "surge".
