DOH: Pertussis outbreak under control

Department of Health (DOH) Secretary Teodoro Herbosa stated that the pertussis outbreak in the Philippines is now under control and has plateaued.

He assured the public that the situation is being closely monitored by the Regional Epidemiology Surveillance Unit.

Herbosa encouraged parents to have their children aged 0 to 5 vaccinated, emphasizing that it is not too late for unvaccinated children to receive the vaccine.

The DOH chief clarified that the vaccine will only be given to asymptomatic individuals and will be deferred if a child has a fever or shows symptoms.

As of this reporting, at least three local government units, namely Quezon City, Pasig City, and Iloilo City, have declared a pertussis outbreak.
