DOH eyes Caballo Island, Nueva Ecija facility for OFW quarantine

Defense Secretary Delfin Lorenzana announced that Caballo Island and the Fort Magsaysay Drug Rehabilitation Center in Nueva Ecija are being considered as potential quarantine sites for returning overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) from Wuhan City and other areas in China affected by the 2019 novel coronavirus (2019-nCoV).

An ocular inspection of the naval facilities on Caballo Island, which has been previously used as a quarantine site for returning Filipino peacekeepers, was conducted by government health officials on Friday.

The Fort Magsaysay Drug Rehabilitation Center is scheduled for a visit on Saturday.

The government plans to transport trapped Filipinos from Wuhan City and Hubei province back to the Philippines.

Returning OFWs are expected to be quarantined for 14 days, and if they show no signs of infection, they will be allowed to leave.

Government officials are on high alert to contain the spread of the 2019-nCoV in the country.
