DOH detects no Omicron variant cases in latest sequencing

The Department of Health (DOH) announced that no Omicron COVID-19 variant cases were detected in the latest whole genome sequencing of 48 samples.

The sequencing included samples from 12 returning overseas Filipinos and 36 local cases.

Out of the 48 samples, 38 were identified as the Delta variant, bringing the country's total to 7,886.

The Delta variant cases were distributed across various regions in the Philippines, including Cagayan Valley, Cordillera Administrative Region, Mimaropa, Bicol, Western Visayas, Soccskargen, NCR, Central Luzon, Calabarzon, and Davao Region.

Two of the returning Filipinos with Delta variant had a history of travel to Turkey, while others have traveled to Jordan, Mexico, Netherlands, Panama, and Peru.

Most of the identified Delta variant cases have recovered, with one active case and three outcomes still under verification.

The DOH continues to prioritize sequencing for additional returning overseas Filipino and local cases from high-risk areas.

Results for genome sequencing of samples from a traveler from South Africa and 11 others who tested positive for COVID-19 are still pending.

The DOH reminds the public to adhere to minimum public health standards and urges local government units to actively find cases and investigate clusters to curb the spread of COVID-19.
