DOH: COVID-19 cases up but country remains at low risk

The Department of Health (DOH) stated that the recent uptick in COVID-19 cases across the Philippines is not yet sustained, and the country remains at low risk for the virus.

Health Undersecretary Maria Rosario Vergeire noted that from June 2 to June 8, an average of 197 new cases were recorded, a 9% increase from the previous week.

The national positivity rate has risen to 1.3%, though the average daily attack rate remains below one case per 100,000 population.

Hospital admissions, including ICU admissions, have remained stable or shown only slight increases, with total bed utilization up by 1% to 19%.

Vergeire also expressed that a significant surge in COVID-19 cases is unlikely, even with comments from a research firm about a more concerning situation in Metro Manila.
