DOH confirms local transmission of UK coronavirus variant in Bontoc
The Department of Health (DOH) has confirmed local transmission of the more infectious United Kingdom (UK) COVID-19 variant in Bontoc, Mountain Province.
The linkages of the 12 cases of the new variant were identified through genome sequencing.
The DOH stated that all identified cases with the UK variant can be epidemiologically linked to importations or cases with identifiable exposures.
The department also noted that there is currently no strong evidence of community transmission of the new variant based on World Health Organization criteria.
Earlier, on January 22, the DOH had reported 12 cases of the UK variant in Mountain Province, which were part of 16 new UK variant cases in the country.
