DOH monitors health condition of 4 Filipino seafarers infected with India coronavirus variant
The Department of Health (DOH) confirmed 10 additional cases of the B.1.617.2 COVID-19 variant, also known as the Indian variant, bringing the total to 12.
Of the newly identified cases, one is a seafarer who traveled from Belgium and returned to Manila via the UAE on April 24, completing isolation on May 13.
Nine of the cases are crew members from the MV Athens Bridge who arrived from India.
Four of the MV Athens Bridge crew members are currently hospitalized in Metro Manila.
One of the hospitalized seafarers is intubated but in stable and improving condition, while the other three are under oxygen support and also doing well.
The DOH is studying the characteristics of the B.1.617 variant to compare its severity and duration to other variants.
