The Department of Energy (DoE) is set to install solar panel systems with battery storage in four public health facilities in Lanao del Sur to ensure continuous medical services.
The facilities to benefit are Tamparan Provincial Hospital, the provincial infirmary in Marawi City, Wao District Hospital, and Dr. Serapio B. Montañer, Jr. Al-Haj Memorial Hospital in Malabang.
A combined 170 kilowatt-peak (kWp) of rooftop solar photovoltaic (PV) capacity with battery storage will be installed across these hospitals.
Tamparan Provincial Hospital will receive a 40-kWp system with 140 kWh of battery storage, while the Provincial Infirmary in Marawi City will get 30 kWp of solar PV and 60 kWh of storage.
Wao District Hospital and the Malabang hospital will each be equipped with 50 kWp of solar PV and 100 kWh of battery storage.
This initiative is part of the Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency: Access to Climate Security and Health Services (RE3ACHS) Project, a collaboration involving the United Nations Development Programme, the Ministry of Environment, Natural Resources, and Energy of BARMM, the Provincial Government of Lanao del Sur, and is supported by the Government of Japan.
