DOE seeks P3.8B budget for 2026, eyes nuclear power

The Department of Energy (DOE) is requesting a P3.8 billion budget for 2026, an increase of 24.4% from its current funding, to support nuclear power entry and achieve full electrification.

P2.4 billion, or 64% of the proposed budget, will fund major programs including the information systemic strategic plan (ISSP) and the operational requirements of the newly created Nuclear Energy Division.

The remaining P1.4 billion will be allocated to the Nuclear Energy Development Program, energy efficiency and conservation promotion, alternative fuels, and the total electrification project.

The DOE's budget includes funding for programs supporting President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.'s goal of 100% electrification and the nation's renewable energy targets.

The Philippines aims for 35% of its energy mix to come from renewable sources by 2030.

Energy Secretary Sharon S. Garin highlighted the DOE's substantial revenue generation for the National Treasury.
