DOE, Saudi Arabia sign MOU to boost energy cooperation

The Department of Energy (DOE) has commenced a two-day mission in Saudi Arabia to strengthen energy sector partnerships, culminating in the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between Energy Secretary Raphael Lotilla and Saudi Energy Minister Abdulaziz bin Salam Al Saud.

This significant MOU, which has been in the works since 2005, aims to boost collaboration between the Philippines and Saudi Arabia in adopting cleaner and sustainable energy solutions.

Key areas of cooperation under the MOU include the development and implementation of low-carbon technologies, joint research and development initiatives, policy exchange, and capacity building in sectors like carbon capture, utilization, and storage (CCUS) and hydrogen.

The energy mission is a direct result of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.'s attendance at the ASEAN-Gulf Cooperation Council Summit held in Saudi Arabia last year.
