DND seeks P295.2B budget for 2026, no new contracts with Israeli firms

The Department of National Defense (DND) is seeking a P295.2 billion budget for 2026, an 8.6 percent increase from the current year's P271.9 billion.

Approximately 95 percent, or P282.9 billion, of the proposed DND budget will be allocated to the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP).

Defense Secretary Gilbert Teodoro confirmed that the DND has not entered into new contracts with Israeli arms manufacturers.

However, the Philippine Army continues to procure munitions from an Israel-based weapons dealer as part of earlier acquisitions.

This comes amid concerns raised by Kabataan Party-list Representative Renee Louise Co regarding a P248 million notice of award to Elbit Systems for precision-guided projectiles.

Co highlighted humanitarian concerns, stating that the munitions procured from Elbit Systems are reportedly used in the ongoing Israel-Gaza conflict.
