DND, AFP reaffirm commitment to Constitution amid calls for military to withdraw support

The Department of National Defense (DND) and the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) have jointly reaffirmed their unwavering commitment to the Constitution and democratic institutions.

This joint statement was issued in response to certain groups urging the military to withdraw its support from the current government.

Defense Secretary Gilberto C. Teodoro Jr. and AFP Chief of Staff Gen. Romeo S. Brawner Jr. denounced these attempts as futile and irresponsible distractions from the AFP's primary mission.

The AFP, recognized as a professional and nonpartisan entity, reiterated its dedication to serving the Filipino people and upholding the principles enshrined in the Constitution.

Both the DND and AFP expressed strong support for the President's anti-corruption campaign, characterizing it as a vital national endeavor for good governance, justice, and progress.

The statement explicitly rejected any external attempts to influence or patronize the AFP, emphasizing that the military strictly adheres to the Chain of Command.
