DILG to challenge TPO for KJC members before CA

The Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) will challenge the temporary protection order (TPO) granted to Kingdom of Jesus Christ (KJC) members before the Court of Appeals (CA).

DILG Secretary Benhur Abalos Jr. stated that the TPO from Davao City Regional Trial Court Branch 15, which supposedly prevents police actions against KJC members, is being challenged.

The decision to challenge the TPO was made after discussions with the Office of the Solicitor General (OSG), who filed a manifestation stating the order is ultra vires.

A petition for certiorari will be filed with the Court of Appeals by the OSG.

Abalos cited a Supreme Court order from May 28 that mandated the transfer of Apollo Quiboloy's criminal cases from Davao to Quezon City.

This Supreme Court order designated the Office of the Clerk of Court and the Metropolitan Trial Court in Quezon City as the proper venues for Quiboloy's cases, affecting the jurisdiction of the TPO.
