DILG sees fewer election areas of concern for 2022 polls

The Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) has announced a significant decrease in election areas of concern for the upcoming 2022 polls compared to the 2019 elections.

DILG spokesperson Undersecretary Jonathan Malaya reported that the Philippine National Police (PNP) has identified approximately 300 election areas of concern for 2022, a substantial reduction from the 946 areas in 2019.

In the 2019 elections, 546 areas were classified as "red areas of concern," while for the 2022 elections, the number of "red areas" is estimated to be between 110 towns and 15 cities, totaling around 125.

Malaya stated that this decrease reflects an improvement in the country's overall peace and order situation.

However, the National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) chief, Police Major General Felipe Natividad, confirmed that Caloocan and Quezon City are among the areas included in the 2022 list.
