DILG sec praises LGU vaccination incentives

Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) Secretary Eduardo Año praised the healthy competition among local government units (LGUs) in encouraging Filipinos to get vaccinated against COVID-19.

As of Friday, July 2, 2021, over 33 million people have registered with their LGUs to get vaccinated, a significant increase attributed to joint government and private sector efforts.

LGUs are actively innovating and offering various incentives, such as raffle prizes of motorcycles and even houses, to motivate their constituents to register and receive their anti-COVID-19 doses.

Año noted the decreasing vaccine hesitancy and expressed a preference for 'vaccine envy' among LGUs to further boost vaccination efforts.

The DILG secretary highlighted specific initiatives like Las Piñas Representative Camille Villar's raffle for a house and lot, and Santa, Ilocos Sur Mayor Jesus Bueno Jr.'s similar offering.

Various LGUs have implemented drive-through vaccinations, fast lanes for PWDs, free medications, transportation, meals, and snacks to encourage vaccination.
