DILG probes 25 officials for leaving country amid travel ban

The Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) is investigating 25 local government officials who left the country despite a travel ban imposed due to Typhoons Tino and Uwan.

Of the 25, 18 had secured foreign travel authority but still departed, while seven left without the necessary authorization.

DILG Secretary Jonvic Remulla had prohibited local officials from traveling abroad between November 9 to 15 to focus on disaster preparedness and relief efforts.

These officials could face administrative charges, with Remulla stating earlier that 24 officials might face charges for leaving without foreign travel authority.

Malacañang is considering possible sanctions for those who defied the DILG order.

The DILG's authority to approve foreign travel for local officials, regardless of position, extends to unofficial and official trips during emergencies or crises, as per Memorandum Circular 2025-023.
