DILG rallies behind Tour of Luzon
The Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) is supporting the return of the Tour of Luzon, a popular cycling event that begins on Thursday, April 24, in Paoay, Ilocos Norte after a hiatus.
DILG Secretary Juanito Victor "Jonvic" Remulla stated that the revival of the event can foster sports consciousness, camaraderie, and competitiveness among Filipinos.
Remulla has directed all local government units (LGUs) and their officials to ensure the orderly and peaceful conduct of the eight-stage tour.
The opening ceremony on Wednesday is expected to be attended by Secretary Remulla and Philippine Olympic Committee president Abraham "Bambol" Tolentino.
Patrick "Pato" Gregorio, chairman of organizer DuckWorld PH, expressed gratitude for the DILG's support, emphasizing the significant involvement of LGUs in the event.
The Tour of Luzon is presented by Metro Pacific Tollways Corp., headed by its Chief Regulatory Officer Arrey Perez, who also serves as the executive director.
The individual overall winner will receive P500,000, while the overall team champion will be awarded P1 million.
