DigiPlus expands to South African online gambling market

DigiPlus Interactive Corp. is expanding its global reach by entering the South African online gambling market, aiming for a slice of its $1.6-billion industry projected to grow by up to 5% annually.

The company is preparing to file license applications with the Western Cape Gambling and Racing Board, recognizing South Africa's significant and growing online betting sector.

DigiPlus plans to apply for National Manufacturer, Bookmaker, and Bookmaker Premises licenses, along with necessary key employee licenses.

According to DigiPlus Chair Eusebio Tanco, South Africa represents a crucial entry point into the African continent's digital future and is the "next phase of its international growth strategy."

The licensing process is expected to take about six months and involves "intensive probity checks for both the company and its ultimate beneficial owners" (UBOs).

This expansion into South Africa, along with an upcoming launch in Brazil, may be seen as a diversification strategy in light of rising regulatory risks in DigiPlus's domestic operations.
