DFA declares 2022 OAV a success with increased voter turnout

The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) declared the 2022 overseas absentee voting (OAV) a success, with a voter turnout of 32% to 33%, surpassing the 31.45% in 2016.

DFA Overseas Voting Secretariat director Zolio Velasco attributed the increased turnout to the excitement of overseas Filipinos to participate in the elections, despite pandemic limitations.

Approximately 500,000 to 550,000 overseas Filipinos have cast their votes so far, though this is not yet the final count.

The special board of canvassers in various Consulates and Embassies are currently consolidating and canvassing the votes.

The results of the overseas absentee voting are expected to be finalized within the week.

There are close to 1.7 million overseas Filipino voters for the 2022 national elections.
