DepEd suspends classes in Negros Oriental, Bohol, Cebu

The Department of Education (DepEd) has suspended classes in all levels in Negros Oriental from January 24 to 31, 2022.

This suspension is a measure to allow teachers and students to recover from the impact of Typhoon Odette and to mitigate the risks posed by the COVID-19 pandemic, particularly the Omicron variant.

DepEd regional director for Central Visayas, Dr. Salustiano Jimenez, stated that the memorandum covers all provinces under Alert Level 3, excluding Siquijor.

The suspension also applies to Bohol and Cebu provinces.

The measure aims to provide academic ease, allowing affected teachers, staff, parents, and learners to recover from the devastation caused by Typhoon Odette.

Typhoon Odette destroyed computer equipment, modules, learning materials, and classrooms in the affected areas.

Approximately 300,000 learners in all levels up to Grade 12 are covered by this suspension.
