DepEd Sec. Briones tests negative for COVID-19

Education Secretary Leonor Briones has tested negative for COVID-19 and her quarantine period has ended.

Briones voluntarily quarantined herself as an extra precautionary measure after a participant in meetings she attended tested positive for COVID-19.

Despite being in quarantine, Briones continued to discharge her functions as Education Secretary through telecommuting tools.

Her COVID-19 test was conducted to ensure no threat to her functions, prevent disruption in the education sector's governance, and protect other officials from potential exposure.

Briones emphasized that DepEd's work to protect teachers, personnel, and learners from the virus will continue despite class suspensions.

She has issued guidelines regarding the remainder of the school year, including provisions for examinations, graduations, and alternative learning delivery.

Further guidelines were released for work arrangements in DepEd offices and schools within the National Capital Region and other areas under community quarantine, focusing on social distancing and service continuity.
