DepEd orders overtime pay for teachers

The Department of Education (DepEd) has issued DepEd Order No. 26, s. 2025, outlining guidelines for overtime pay for public school teachers who exceed their six-hour teaching load.

Teachers will receive 125% of their hourly rate for overtime work on weekdays and 150% for work done on weekends and holidays.

Overtime pay is applicable only to teaching-related assignments performed within schools.

Teachers must render at least two hours of overtime on weekdays to qualify for monetary compensation, with less than two hours converted into vacation service credits (VSC).

On weekends, holidays, and special non-working days, up to four hours of overtime will be compensated monetarily, with any excess converted into VSC.

Education Secretary Sonny Angara stated that this move demonstrates DepEd's commitment to valuing teachers' sacrifices and supporting the President's initiative for additional benefits.

This policy coincides with the National Teachers' Month celebration.
