The clarification came after Education Secretary Leonor Briones initially suggested its postponement during a Senate inquiry.

While the Palarong Pambansa will proceed, the National Schools Press Conference, National Science and Technology Fair, and National Festival of Talents, typically held in February, have been suspended as a precautionary measure.

The Palarong Pambansa is scheduled to be held in Marikina City in May and is expected to draw around 30,000 participants.

DepEd emphasized that the safety of participants remains the priority and stated that a memorandum with further details will be released.

The Philippines has two confirmed cases of 2019-nCoV, with 105 persons under investigation as of Tuesday.
