DepEd asks LGUs to balance class suspensions with learning continuity

The Department of Education (DepEd) urged local government units (LGUs) to balance decisions on class suspensions with the need for learning continuity.

DepEd acknowledged that LGUs have the authority to suspend classes for public safety, but emphasized that extended suspensions can disrupt students' academic progress and development.

DepEd will coordinate with Schools Division Offices (SDOs) to deploy alternative learning delivery modes for affected students.

This advisory follows instances of consecutive class suspensions in some areas.

The provincial government of Laguna imposed a 14-day suspension of in-person classes in all public and private schools from October 14 to October 31 as a precaution against potential seismic activity along the West Valley Fault.
