DENR confirms case buildup vs illegal miners in Camarines Norte

Environment Secretary Ma. Antonia Yulo-Loyzaga confirmed that a case buildup is underway against individuals involved in alleged illegal mining operations in Paracale, Camarines Norte.

Eleven Chinese nationals were recently arrested in Paracale for working at an illegal mining site using only tourist visas.

The operation in Paracale had been permitted to operate in 2023 but was found to be operating beyond its permitted area, with the presence of foreign workers.

Yulo-Loyzaga expressed strong belief that foreign nationals are likely involved in illegal mining activities across the Philippines, citing a previous apprehension of foreign workers in Cagayan de Oro and Iligan.

The Mines and Geosciences Bureau has reportedly secured and closed off the affected area in Paracale.
